Celebrating Mass a few steps from the spot traditionally believed to be the birthplace of Jesus, Pope Francis said that the way society treats its young reveals its moral character.

Praying for peace in the Holy Land alongside leaders of long-antagonistic nations, Pope Francis called on God to act where human efforts had failed, to end what he described as violence inspired by the devil.

Bishop Michael Mulvey ordained four priests at the Corpus Christi Cathedral on Saturday, May 31. It was, the bishop said to the new priests, “a special day in your lives and in the lives of your families, but it is also a unique moment in the life of the entire Church.”

Thanks to the generosity of parishioners from the Diocese of Corpus Christi who donated and continue to donate to the Legacy of Faith, Future of Hope Capital Endowment Campaign, retired priests in the diocese have begun moving into their new homes at the St. John Vianney Residence for Priests.

Holy Cross Catholic Church hosted a Family Day Out on June 29. It was billed as Centennial Fundraiser and included food, fun, games and entertainment.The parish will celebrate its Centennial on Sept. 14. Everyone is welcomed to attend. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The parish is located at 1109 North Staples Street in Corpus Christi.

Five couples participated in a special centennial marriage celebration at St. Martin of Tours Church in Kingsville on June 14. The wedding vows were exchanged before families and friends of the participants.

On Monday, June 23, Liberty Institute secured a victory in its fight to protect the free speech and religious liberty rights of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin, and Austin area Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs). In the case Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin et al v. City of Austin, U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel ruled that the Austin city ordinance targeting the religious life-affirming groups unconstitutional.

The faith community of St. Joseph in Alice celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi on Sunday June 22. At the conclusion of Mass, Father Pete Elizardo carried the Blessed Sacrament and led a large crowd gathered for the celebration in a Eucharistic Procession around the neighborhood.

An Urgent call for assistance is being made for immigrant refugee children in the Rio Grande Valley who have crossed into the United States and now are being released from federal holding areas. The large numbers are taxing the resources in that area.
