"Where’s Waldo?" was an immensely popular children’s book some 25-years ago. Its popularity was due to its hide and seek format; the reader had to search among a thousand miniature figures on each page in order to find Waldo. I remember how often the students in my library would proclaim with delight, “Here he is!” Sad, many Bible readers could have the same delightful discovery with just a little effort in listening for the voices of the many women of the Bible.

This year’s 23rd annual Santa Rosa de Lima Festival honored its parish Catholic School established in 1951 and closed in 1967. Bishop Michael Mulvey joined parishioners in the observance with an opening Mass on Aug. 20. Many young people living presently living in Benavides are not aware that the Catholic Church had a school, said a Festival Committee organizer, which is why the 2016 festival committee decided to shine recognize it.

Father Michael Burke, 92, entered into eternal life on Sunday, Aug. 21. He served at Most Precious Blood Parish in Corpus Christi for 11 years and afterwards he helped out at other parishes in the Diocese of Corpus Christi.

Twenty religious sisters from seven different communities participated in the second, two-week summer course “Esposas de Cristo, Hijas de la Iglesia” (Spouses of Christ, Daughters of the Church). Among the participants was Pax Christi Sister Gloria Salinas from the Diocese of Corpus Christi.

This Sunday, Sept. 4, Pope Francis will canonize Blessed Mother Teresa. The canonization portrait of Mother Teresa, a copy of which will hang from St. Peter’s Basilica, is meant to reflect her joy and her selflessness, said the artist. The Knights of Columbus will provide a million prayer cards with the portrait on them available for pilgrims in Rome.
