Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo, who is also a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, presents Bishop Michael Mulvey with the city proclamation for the feast day. Bishop Mulvey accepts the proclamation and thanked Mayor Guajardo for her presence and for personally delivering the City’s Proclamation: naming June 3, 2021, as “Feast of Corpus Christi Day.”

As the week of June 3 approached, the diocesan celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi coincided with a potentially crucial schedule change due to inclement weather. Thunderstorms threatened to cancel the Eucharistic Procession, which guaranteed the attendance of many parishes, ministry groups, and individuals who had planned to participate.

Director Jaime Reyna and Administrative Assistant Heath Garcia from the Office of Youth Ministry in the Diocese of Corpus Christi held two youth ministry meetings to determine the present needs of leaders involved in youth ministry in their parish.

For the past 66 years, Richard Quijas has been a faithful parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea on North Beach. During a recent Holy Hour Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at his church in May, he became emotional.

Catholic dioceses that are struggling to recover from decades of communist persecution will receive $3.56 million for ministry and outreach thanks to the generosity of American Catholics to the annual collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe that is taken up in most dioceses each winter.

In my vocation as a Little Sister of the Poor, I am involved in several aspects of our mission of hospitality to the elderly. One of my favorite things is organizing creative activities for our residents, so I’m always looking for new art projects they might enjoy.

With more than one-third of its student population being affiliated with the military, Saint Leo University is claiming top honors among private, not-for-profit universities as well as No. 1 in the Southeast in Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2021, which recently was released. Among the 300 participating universities, Saint Leo University ranked 11th in the nation in the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2021.  

My mother, a 1920’s Great Depression survivor, Maria L Mendez Hernandez, died on August 31, 2020. When she died, the family went through the task of making arrangements for a public rosary (a must despite the coronavirus limitations). A Mass was celebrated at Corpus Christi Cathedral, a church she and my dad attended since the 1950s.
