The Incarnate Word Academy varsity swimmers brought home medals from the TAPPS Division 2 State Meet on Feb. 6 in San Antonio at the Walker Pool.

Incarnate Word Academy Elementary swim program is paying off.  Several of the elementary swimmers have competed in the state swim meets this year and they have the hardware to back up their swims.

The Diocese of Corpus Christi Catholic Schools is celebrating our schools from Jan. 26-Feb.1. Many schools will be following daily themes.

St. John Paul II High School Senior Retreat, entitled “Called and Chosen,” was held at Our Lady of Corpus Christi Retreat Center on Jan. 6-7. Students attended Mass both days, had opportunities for confession, heard talks, adored Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and grew in fellowship.  

St. Pius X Catholic School chess team wins two trophies at the Coastal Bend Chess Federation’s tournament on Dec. 7. The four members who competed were third-grader Jase Garcia, fourth-grader George Roberts and sixth-graders Abby Bippert and Adam Mikulik.

Sixth-grader, Jonah Dulin, from St. Pius X has won the Corpus Christi Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR essay) contest for the sixth-grade level. Jonah has attended St. Pius X Catholic School since PreK-4.

In spite of competing with other school activities and the SAT administration on Dec. 7, a few of the St. John Paul II High School Rotary Interact members had an opportunity to do community service by volunteering their morning to assist in the construction of a wheelchair ramp for a gentleman who had a stroke.

Incarnate Word Academy student council representatives from the Elementary, Middle, and High School Levels hosted the annual food drive in conjunction with KIII-TV’s Share Your Christmas on Dec. 3.

For Veronica Maxwell and her family, the Live Nativity at St. John Paul II High School has been a family tradition to kick off the Christmas season for many years.

Educators were honored and inspired at the 34th annual Diocesan Catholic Educators’ Conference on Nov. 22 as Bishop Michael Mulvey thanked some 375 teachers, staff, and administrators. He personally presented to them certificates, awards and years of service. Also, this year’s conference included international speaker, Dorina Sackman-Ebuwa, who gave a dynamic presentation.

St. Patrick School and Corpus Communities will celebrate St. Patrick's Day and share the message of faith, while encouraging healthy lifestyles and family fitness on March 14 beginning at 9 a.m. meet at Cassidy's (601 North Water Street. The 6th Annual Shamrock Shuffle 5k Run/Walk and 1K Leprechaun Chase will be the official kick-off for the Annual St. Paddy's Day Festival. Please join us to WALK, RUN or even SHUFFLE! 

When Kathleen Cullinan learned about the need to find an online market for a collection of donated Hummel figurines, lamps, candy dishes, bells and clocks, she volunteered to organize their sale. With the help of her granddaughter and St. John Paul II High School freshman, Jazzlyn Silva, they worked together for more than 50 hours, carefully cleaning and preparing the Hummels for sale.

Third-grade student, Mandalyn Puebla, from St. Pius X, won a national writing competition.

As one of their acts of service to others, students and teachers from every grade level at St. Pius X School donated boxes of joy to children in developing countries. They filled the boxes with toys, clothing, school supplies, a rosary and the story of Jesus.

St. Pius X School celebrated Veterans Day, Nov. 11 by honoring veterans. Nov. 11. Guest Speaker Lieutenant Commander Margaret Brown, USCG shared her inspiring story and reminded students to ask other veterans to share their stories.

Hundreds of students from Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School (BGMPS) and St. John Paul II High School participated in the 6th Annual Cancer Walk on Oct. 4. The walk, sponsored by the BGMPS 3H Club, included the Corpus Christi Fire Department's pink C.A.R.E. firetruck, both school’s cheerleaders, bands and Centurion Mascot, along with some colorful characters from the dinosaur age.

Teachers continue to incorporate STREAM in their lesson plans at St. Pius X Elementary School.

Incarnate Word Academy celebrated the life of Dr. Hector P. Garcia, the renowned Mexican American civil rights leader, during a memorial Mass on September 18 in the James R. Dougherty, Jr. Center.

Before their Homecoming Dance, eight students from the Rotary Interact Club at St. John Paul II High School gave a Saturday morning by living the club’s motto “service above self.”
