On May 31, 2025, during the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Denise Landry-Hyde and Kathleen Schulz made their professions as Secular Franciscans.
Fr. Paul Hesse celebrated Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, attended by many professed Secular Franciscans from the Coastal Bend, as well as family members and friends of Denise and Kathy, and individuals in formation to become Secular Franciscans.
During their profession, Denise and Kathy expressed their intention to follow the rule of St. Francis as Secular Franciscans (Brothers and Sisters of Penance). Their journey began three years ago with initial formation and discernment to live the Gospel in the manner of St. Francis. This means bringing the Gospel to life and life to the Gospel as laypeople in the secular world. Denise and Kathy are now professed members of the St. Anthony of Padua Secular Franciscan Fraternity in Corpus Christi. Following the Mass, a celebration was held in the parish hall with refreshments. The St. Anthony of Padua Secular Franciscan Fraternity is greatly blessed by their commitment to living the Franciscan charism, and both are a blessing to their families and friends, and their parishes.
