How has it been going so far? My first 100 days have been very exciting. I feel delighted to be a priest. I recently told my mom that, for me, the priesthood feels like a hand in a glove. Every priest has their own unique personality. I'm learning how my personality fits into priestly ministry. It's been a beautiful journey. There’s been so much happening and so many people to meet, along with many new experiences. I remember one day when I did four different sacraments. There are days filled with ministry and days of rest, every now and then.
Was there something you didn’t expect? It surprised me that the things I was afraid of on my ordination day turned out to be the ones I liked the most. I was hesitant about hearing confessions and preaching. Yet, those are two great opportunities where I feel a real connection with God's people. I can be an instrument of His mercy and His sacred Word.
During your first few months of ministry, what has been the easiest part for you? What brings you the most joy? It's the most fantastic adventure that goes beyond your imagination; there are scary moments and difficult times because you don't know what will happen next. When you say yes to doing a funeral, you don't know what kind of funeral it will be. However, we always know that God is present in this adventure. Sometimes, the priesthood can seem dull; it’s the same thing every day, but that is the furthest from the truth.
Is there anything you still need to get used to? The routines and time management. During my first week, I wasn't sure whether I had to celebrate Mass at Sacred Heart, the Emmanuel Chapel in the basement of the cathedral, or at the Pink Sisters' convent. Now, I’d say I’m at 99% on time when starting Mass. I still get a little sidetracked and say, “Oh, I have to run.” That is something I can still work on!
