Over a hundred students and members of the St. Anthony School community, along with board members from Robstown Independent School District attended the Blessing of the New Multi-Purpose Building at St. Anthony School in Robstown on Aug. 20.
Bishop Wm. Michael Mulvey blessed the buildings contents: a new kitchen, dining facility, music room and a parent involvement room. He also blessed a 24-foot high painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe painted by artist Jessie Flores and sponsored by the prayer group at St. Anthony’s.
The multi-purpose building was financed with a grant from The John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation and parishioners from St. Anthony Church.
General Marc Cisneros, CEO of the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation, stressed the importance of Catholic Education and honored Petra Vela, who was a Catholic herself and grandmother to Sarita Kenedy East who created the foundation.
Sylvia Benavidez, president of St. Anthony School Advisory Council gave a special thanks to members of Robstown Independent School District who were in attendance, including Leobardo Cano, Superintendent of Schools for R.I.S.D.
“Here in Robstown we take great pride at St. Anthony’s in working together with Robstown ISD. Whether they go on to Corpus Christi or stay here in Robstown, we want our children to get a good solid curriculum education, Benavidez said.
Sister Ma. Paz Aribon, O.P., principal of St. Anthony School, presented Bishop Mulvey with a colorful lei of paper hands made by the students in honor of his upcoming birthday.
