Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi will kick off its annual “40 Cans for Lent” food drive on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026, inviting the community to help fight hunger across the Coastal Bend. The drive will run through Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.
The Lenten initiative encourages individuals, families, parishes, schools, and community groups to donate canned goods, dry goods, and other non-perishable food items to support individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Donations of healthy and specialty items, including low-fat, low-sugar, low-sodium, and diabetic-friendly foods, are especially needed to meet the dietary needs of those with chronic health conditions.
“Lent calls us to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving — to turn our hearts toward God and our neighbors,” said Anita Rivera, Emergency Aid Director at Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi. “Through 40 Cans for Lent, each donation becomes a tangible act of compassion. It’s a simple way to turn daily sacrifice into hope and nourishment for those who struggle with hunger every day.”
Donation collection bins will be available at participating Catholic parishes and partner organizations throughout the Coastal Bend. Food donations will support pantry services at the following locations: •Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi, 615 Oliver Ct., Corpus Christi, TX 78408 •Holy Family Catholic Church, 2509 Nogales St., Corpus Christi, TX 78418 •Mother Teresa Shelter, 513 Sam Rankin Ave., Corpus Christi, TX 78401
