Incarnate Word Academy hosted its first ever campus-wide S.T.E.M. Festival on Feb. 22 in the school’s Mother Patricia Gunning Gymnasium.
The festival showcased over 40 student-led exhibits focused on the subjects of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics with students from first grade through twelfth grade. Middle Level art exhibits, a photo booth and a concession stand were available for festivalgoers to enjoy.
Integrated into the curriculum beginning at the Elementary Level, S.T.E.M. classes are designed to teach students a diverse range of critical thinking and reasoning skills. These types of lessons enhance student collaboration, creativity, and communication skills while also preparing students for the future.
“We at IWA want to get students engaged at an early age, sparking their interest and facilitating their futures within the community,” High School Level Assistant Principal Darla Montano said.
