Around 600 fourth-degree Knights from Texas and Oklahoma gathered this weekend for the 121st Annual State Convention at the American Bank Center, where they discussed and reflected on the year's motto, “Follow Me.” Archbishop Joe Vasquez from Galveston-Houston, Bishop Michael Mulvey, Bishop Gregory Kelly of Tyler, and retired Bishop of San Angelo Michael Pfeifer concelebrated the solemn Sunday Mass.
In his homily, Bishop Mulvey reminded the Knights and their family members how Jesus encountered people – he met the Samaritan woman at the well, “this is evangelization – just being with people.” Jesus always called people to have a deeper faith. Christianity, the bishop continued, is not about ethical questions or “being a nice person”; it is an encounter with a person – Jesus - and an event, the resurrection: “We encounter Jesus every day, and He opens new horizons for us.”
We can “hear, see, and touch” the presence of God. “Jesus left us His words, we can see Him in encounters, and touch Him in the sacraments,” explained Bishop Mulvey. “He calls us to share His mission: What I have been given, I must give.”
