The Corpus Christi Cathedral structure will be closing on Monday, May 26, 2025, to begin restoration and renovation. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
From Monday, May 26, to Friday, May 30, both the 7 am Mass and the 12:05 pm Mass will be celebrated in the Emmanuel Chapel. There is a new schedule during the weekends: There will be a 5 pm Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Lectors and musicians from the Cathedral and Sacred Heart will alternate for this Mass and the 8 am Mass in Spanish on Sundays, which will also be celebrated at Sacred Heart.
Sunday’s 7 am Mass will be celebrated in the Emmanuel Chapel until further notice. At some point during the process, the Emmanuel Chapel might also need to be closed for a period of time.
English Masses will be celebrated on Sundays at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm at Sacred Heart.
From June 2 until further notice, only the 7 am Mass will be celebrated in the Emmanuel Chapel; the weekday 12:05 pm Mass will be moved to Sacred Heart.
Parking is available at the former rectory and the school parking lot. During the weekends, the City Hall parking lot is also available. Street parking right in front of the Church should be reserved for people with a handicap. The ushers kindly ask all who have no difficulties walking to use the other parking lots.
Once the Cathedral is closed, Most Precious Blood Church will become a Pro-Cathedral for diocesan celebrations, such as the Priestly Ordination on June 14.
There have been questions about whether the Corpus Christi Cathedral will continue to be a Holy Site for the Jubilee Year of Hope. The answer is “Yes”.
At the beginning of the Jubilee of Hope, our late Holy Father, Pope Francis, instructed all dioceses to establish Holy Sites within their dioceses for pilgrims to visit and obtain a plenary indulgence. The instructions declared that the church’s grounds are all considered Holy Sites. It is not necessary to enter the church structure to fulfill the requirements for obtaining a plenary indulgence.
Therefore, the Corpus Christi Cathedral grounds will continue to serve as one of the Holy Sites for the Jubilee Year of Hope. We invite you to locate the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the courtyard area and offer your prayers there, or if your schedule permits, join Fr. Stembler for daily Mass in Emmanuel Chapel (located underneath the Cathedral structure). These are two ways of fulfilling the requirements for obtaining a plenary indulgence.
