Corpus Christi Cathedral shines in new splendor: the two missing bronze doors arrived from Italy, were blessed by Bishop Mario Avilés, and were installed. Now all three exterior doors together remind the faithful of central events in Jesus' life.
The left door shows Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven. The central doors depict Jesus and the disciples on the road to Emmaus, sharing the Scriptures and breaking bread. The right door depicts Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descends upon Mary and the apostles.
Inside the Cathedral, the statue of the Good Shepherd has arrived as well and is now placed at the center of the All Saints Chapel, completing the alcove on the left side of the Cathedral.
Deacon Michael Mantz, Director of the Diocesan Office of Real Estate and Construction, said the Cathedral's interior renovation is now complete. Over the next few weeks, they will make outdoor improvements, including installing a proper fence and improved lighting.
The next phase is the new parking lot, located after Mestina Street between Carancahua Street and North Upper Broadway. It will make it possible to reach the Cathedral without crossing a major road. Construction is already underway, and Deacon Mantz expects it to be finished in December.
In the future, a new building with space for meetings and receptions will be added to the right-hand side of the Cathedral, completing the campus with a new courtyard; however, there is no timeline yet for this phase of the renovations.
