How has it been going so far? So far, the priesthood has been awesome! I’m still getting used to people calling me “Father,” but I love how it creates a sense of closeness—people feel comfortable enough to share their joys, struggles, and pains with me. That has been both humbling and amazing.
Was there something you didn’t expect? I’ve had to brush up on things I hadn’t done in months—like reviewing how to celebrate a funeral or how to do a baptism during Mass. I’m very grateful for my brother priests who have walked with me and helped me navigate these tasks as I go.
During your first few months of ministry, what has been the easiest part for you? What brings you the most joy? The easiest—and also the most joyful—part has been celebrating Mass each day. I especially love the smaller, more intimate settings, such as daily Mass, where you can pray with people closely. Another great joy has been visiting parishioners and being welcomed into their homes and lives. As priests, we are called to be fathers who spend time with our flock, and those moments have been a true gift. Is there anything you still need to get used to? Seminary life is very structured, with everything scheduled out for you. Now, as a priest, I have much more responsibility in creating my own rhythm of prayer, work, meals, and even exercise. It’s been an adjustment, but also a wonderful gift—I can arrange my days around what I know will help me serve God and His people best.
