El Obispo Michael Mulvey inauguró oficialmente la fase inicial del Sínodo diocesano, durante la Misa del 24 de octubre, en la Catedral de Corpus Christi. Las parroquias de la Diócesis de Corpus Christi también han comenzado su viaje Sinodal.

Bishop Michael Mulvey has officially opened the diocesan phase of the Synod with Mass on Oct. 24 at Corpus Christi Cathedral. Parishes throughout the Diocese of Corpus Christi will have begun their Synodal journey as well.

Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi, Warren E. Phipps, Jr.  passed away suddenly Oct. 25.  At this time, services and arrangements are pending.

Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – McConnell Unit in Beeville formed a partnership to sponsor a Community Christmas registration day on Oct. 26 at 615 Oliver Ct. 

I do a lot of outreach to the young on behalf of my religious congregation, so I try to be aware of trends in vocations work and the common traits of emerging generations.

St. John Paul II High School community of students, staff, teachers, bishops and priests celebrated their patron saint’s feast day with Mass, praise and worship, adoration and the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the school's campus on Oct. 22.

Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level students celebrated Rock Your School Day on October 21. At the IWA Middle Level, teachers hosted an array of activities and events in their classrooms, including science experiments, camping activities, creating art, theater games, track and field activities, and more. 

On Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, Pope Francis called the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops to begin.  The theme: “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission.”  The Holy Father is inviting the Church to encounter, listen, and discern together to be witnesses of the love of God for humanity. The first phase in this process is the Synodal Diocesan Phase.

Theology II seminarians, Luis Lozano, Jr., and Ruben Riojas, III, were installed as Acolytes on Oct. 16 by Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio, thus deepening their devotion to the mystery of the Eucharist in preparation for the priesthood.

Incarnate Word Academy hosted its first-ever IWA Cares Farmer’s Market on Sept. 30 at the High School Level patio. The school invited individuals and businesses who embody the words of Genesis, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it,” to participate in the IWA Cares Famer’s Market.

Bishop Michael Mulvey celebrated the Rite of Candidacy of a new diaconate class during a Mass at St. Pius X Church on Oct. 8, formally accepting the candidates and initiating the period of formation that will conclude with their ordination to the permanent diaconate.

During Celina Garcia’s computer class, St. John Paul II High School students, who volunteered to work on Chromebook repairs, repaired a Chromebook that had a broken screen. 

“Wisdom is present in this room right now along with the Holy Spirit,” said guest speaker Judge Jorge Rangel to lawyers, judges and persons working in the legal profession at the Oct. 14 Red Mass, presided over by Bishop Michael Mulvey at Corpus Christi Cathedral.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will gather for the 2021 Fall General Assembly in Baltimore, November 15-18. This will be the first in-person meeting of the full body of bishops since November 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the June 2020 spring meeting was canceled, and the November 2020 fall meeting and June 2021 spring meeting were held in a virtual format.

The Corpus Christi Area Chapter of the Knights of Columbus (KOC) honored clergy and religious at the 28th Annual Clergy and Religious Appreciation Banquet at Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds in Robstown. Twelve councils of Knights were represented at the Oct. 7 event. And some 200 people enjoyed a delicious meal as guest speakers, Father Richard Gutierrez, parochial vicar for Corpus Christi Cathedral and Sister Mary Aloysius Kim from the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, shared their vocation stories.

Father John Gaffney from the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving for the centenary celebration of the Legion of Mary. The celebratory Mass and breakfast was held at St. Paul the Apostle Church on Sept. 7. 

The Diocese of Corpus Christi was honored to be the first diocese to welcome Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States since Pope Francis formally opened the Synod of Bishops Oct. 10 with a solemn Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica.
