Retired Major General Warren E. Phipps, Jr. was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Feb. 11. General Phipps earned several awards through his support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and advisement to senior leaders. A Distinguished Service Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star Medal with a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster rank high among the many accolades from superiors, peers and subordinates.

“Campaign 2022”, the annual Spring On-Air fundraiser benefiting 89.5HD KLUX is on the air. The 5-day event, which launches Monday, Feb. 21 is the primary fundraiser for the local non-commercial station.

Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi invites you, your family, school, parish, and community to join in the Annual 40 Cans for Lent food drive held from March 2 to April 17.

The Roman Catholic-Reformed Ecumenical Dialogue in the United States has announced three important new developments in its ongoing ecumenical discussion.

The Diocese of Corpus Christi Office of Catholic Schools conducted the second of a three-part workshop series entitled "Leaders for School Safety Workshop Series." The series focused on school safety and topics under its purview, such as protocol, preparedness, and management.

Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level students participated in the Hardest Math Problem contest sponsored by Scholastic. Fifty-five of our outstanding students advanced to the second and final rounds of the competition, with one sixth grader advancing in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade categories of the contest. 

Gracie Gibbons, president of Young Catholic Adults (YCA) invited Diocesan Director for the Office of Social Ministry, Jaime Reyna, to give a talk and presentation on Social Ministry to members of their YCA group at their “Theology on Tap” on Feb. 8. YCA hosted the event at Café Veritas on Our Lady of Corpus Christi campus. 

More than 60 couples celebrating 25, 50, 60, 65 and 70 years of sacramental marriage were honored at the 2022 Silver and Gold Wedding Anniversary Mass with Bishop Michael Mulvey presiding on Feb. 13 at Corpus Christi Cathedral.

Msgr. John Killeen was laid to rest in Ireland on Feb. 13. He was 90 years old. He was a much loved and respected priest throughout the Diocese of Corpus Christi. 

Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers hosts, a Women’s Day of Prayer “Unity and the Power of Prayer” webinar will be on Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m. CT. The program will open with a brief prayer service with a reflection from Father Leo Shea, M.M., followed by a talk by Keynote speaker Deirdre Cornell, Maryknoll magazine Associate Editor and Orbis Book author.

St. Elizabeth Catholic School presents their 6th annual Glow 5k Walk/Run on Friday, March 4 at the Alice Municipal course. The event holds a standing record as the largest 5K in Alice. Over 800 people registered in 2020. 

As a nominally Catholic teenager I started volunteering at a Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor – and unexpectedly found my purpose in life, my vocation. From my very first encounters with the infirm elderly, my heart was profoundly moved. 

Deacon Armando Sanchez strives to know Jesus more, and he brings that knowledge to the Presence, a Bible class he teaches on Wednesdays at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Parish.

The Diocese of Corpus Christi celebrated World Day of Consecrated Life with Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Mulvey at Corpus Christi Cathedral on Jan. 30. Fifty-seven religious renewed their promises, and nine sisters were recognized for their years of service dedicated to the Church and the mission of their institutes. Their anniversaries ranged from 25 to 75 years.

Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) Elementary Level students donated blankets, towels, dog and cat food, treats and toys to the City of Corpus Christi’s Animal Care Service (CCACS) on Jan. 1 as part of National Catholic Schools Week (NCSW).
